sonic movie 3 thots

preamble: i am Sonic Movie Neutral. it's not the second coming of christ, nor is it a bane to sonic and cinema. to me, these are just another canon in addition to the many canons that sonic has had over these 30+ years of being around. i will live with my isekai'd blue son flossing i guess. they exist.

all being said, this one was WAY better than the other 2.

• jim carrey is VERY prominent in this one. dude plays 2 characters and IS the B plot. his stuff is funny but it's a lot. it does kind of take over the film.
• on the other hand, it means that the human characters don't hijack the movie and are in it much less than the other two. to be fair i like tom and maddie by themselves, but this IS a sonic movie and i think they have been given enough attention. i think writing & production have also realized that
• keanu reeves does well as shadow; at some point i forgot it was him and he just melted into the role, which is a positive. they could have honestly used him more!
• sonic's character direction is MILES better this time and i actually enjoyed it. all the stupid quips they stuffed in the trailer and everything else is manageable. he's the best he's been in these movies. would game!sonic go through the arc he goes through in this movie? probably not.
• the changes they made to the shadow origin story work well enough; it's not the same but i don't think you miss out on the emotional beats. maria DOES get shot at and GUN does NOT care if she is collateral.
• the maria flashbacks are SO CUTE. they did really well with her.
• otherwise the GUN plot is a bit weak and has a nothing resolution. whatever
• i fucking hated the wade moment and was thankful it only lasted 3 minutes at most
• there are a handful of fun fanservicey moments and only one of them is heavy handed.
• live & learn is there.
• there are TWO post credit scenes. i am so afraid for amy rose. shadow lives because we couldn't kill him in 2001 either.
• is it good cinema? no. is it fun? yes.
• there are a TON of easter eggs for nerds if you're looking for them

i had a good time! i was smiling the whole time pretty much. but again i am SO AFRAID FOR AMY ROSE. like i think shadow has enough of a following and we've been away from ow the edge long enough so that it's harder to fuck him up. enough people care about shadow to make sure it all hits. i can't say the same for amy. we can only hope in 2027 or whatever that we get it right. also who will they bring in for a celebrity voice actor because you KNOW That's what theyr'e going to do...auuaugugugh.

it's still good to see sonic doing well though. love him. blue son.
