HULLO...long time no see here. I feel like I should use DW more? Even if it is less public. Might be good for system blather. ANYWAY, this is a writing blog, so that's what we're here for.
I'm here to perhaps sketch out another AU...another SephGen AU...you know, aside from the many. (TAM, witch AU, prohibition, mythics, angel/demon, escape AU...)
So now I guess we're on lucky 7, which is going to be: 70'S AU........................
The problem is I don't really have much of a plot for it? Just the image of "Gen and Seph are T4T and live in some very 70's colored townhouse, go dancing, smoke weed, listen to records, and fuck with gender" has been rotating in my head
Sephiroth: Raised by Hojo and Lucrecia, workaholic busy bodies who want their "son" to follow in their footsteps as a scientist. Seph is a reclusive child who doesn't have a lot of friends. He grows up and has some hallmark trans egg moments; he didn't necessarily mind being a "boy" but recoils at being called a "man". He chooses a school far away from home on purpose on a generic psych degree, hoping that he'll find some purpose by being there. When we meet him, he fluctuates pronouns (she or he) and names between Seph and Sara.
Genesis: Grew up in a small town to a wealthy family. He was kicked out of private school and sent back to the small town public school in 10th grade for general disruptions and violating uniform codes. He and Angeal are childhood friends, and pick right back up where they left off between schools. Genesis had been labeled a "tomboy" for most of his childhood, even when he insisted he wanted to be a boy. Genesis and Angeal date for a while after they come out to each other, but are broken apart when their relationship is discovered and Angeal is sent off to the military. (Even if read as a "straight" relationship, Gen was NOT an ideal candidate.) Gen is almost sent off as well, but before he is, he packs his essential belongings, two briefcases full of cash, and leaves with barely a trace) Some identity fuzzing later, he sets up in the same college town Seph goes to with a handful of odd jobs so he can sustain himself.
All right, bullet points continuing for thought dumping:
- one of gen's jobs is AT LEAST in a library. perhaps the college library? no way does he have a library science degree but he knows where everything is
- another of gen's jobs needs to be a sex toy shop
- another another of gen's very side jobs is selling weed grown in a closet
- seph works temp jobs after class and eventually gets an office gig; she's pretty good with data entry and is very efficient
- seph is extremely athletic but does not show/exhibit it often (except when he picks gen up occasionally)
- gen and seph meet in the library and like keep an eye on each other for a while, until gen puts an ad in the queer paper that is absolutely ridiculous and seph picks it up like "You wrote this." and gen is like ;) yeah ;) and seph takes him up on it
- lots of gender play scenarios. they have a conversation about how it's all just costumes that kind of is a revelation between both of them and at that point they run with it
- like their labels don't change but how they feel about it does? like gen is transmasc but becomes more comfortable presenting femme for a costume; seph is transfem/nb but finds like some middle ground to play (doesn't have to be high femme if he doesn't feel like it, etc.). i think in the end neither of them have like "labels" for their deal. they're trans and queer
- gender weird
- they go out dancing a lot. disco is in.
The real thing with this is that again, don't have a real plot. They meet, they date, they have sex, they live in the 70s. That's all I got. The genderweirdness is a thing, but I worry if it's a COMPLETE focus, then it'll get too...cerebral? Too Tumblr online 21st century? Not sure. If I can feel a good lead to start writing it, I will, but I have no idea if anyone else will want to read it.
Besides all of that, might be stretching the characters a little too far; i.e. it might be a better idea to make them OCs. But I'm playing Crisis Core again and I love Sephiroth and Genesis together making each other crazy and screwing. You see the dilemma I have.
Ah well, we'll see if I come back to it...
